The iPhone 5 lackluster release

Left to right: iPhone 5, iPhone 4s, iPhone 4
Consumers are finding out what most techies already knew. The iPhone 5 has not pushed mobile technology forward. The latest iteration of Apple’s cultish gadget merely catches up with the rest of the field.  The major feature upgrades for the iPhone 5 are a larger screen, better display resolution, LTE network support, turn by turn navigation, and a faster processor. Reserve the faster processor and the rest of these features are already present in Google’s Android and Windows powered devices, Apple’s chief rivals in the mobile phone market. The initial sales of the iPhone 5 have underwhelmed with only 5 million units moving in the first three days. This has led to a $9 dollar drop in Apple’s stock prices as of Monday morning. Despite the initial sales being lower than analyst expectations, Apple is still facing a probable shortage of the iPhone 5. On the Apple website the phone is available to ship in four weeks.

What elevates the iPhone product line and what Apple has continued in the iPhone 5 is the sleek and stylish design of the phone.   Apple has won and continues to win the battle for the hip and trendy consumer. This past summer Apple won a heated lawsuit against Samsung to protect its product design.  The iPhone 5 has a larger screen, is lighter, and is svelter.  Outside of this and some shifting of the ports on the phone, the iPhone 5 represents the iPhone product line much as its predecessors have but with a more competitive edge.

The bottom line is the iPhone 5 is a great looking phone that now has the features that once gave its competitors a competitive advantage. If you are a upgrading from your existing iPhone, the iPhone 5 will give you what you have loved about your phone and some of the features that you were jealous that your friends had and you didn’t.  If you do not currently own an iPhone, you may want to give some consideration to the other smart phones out there like the Samsung Galaxy S3 or Motorola Razr Hd. The Samsung Galaxy S3 and Motoroal Razr Hd offer sleek and stylish designs with more features than the iPhone 5.
