Sensitivity or Racism, I Can't Call It

The local chapter of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) of Dodge County, GA is suing Dodge County for allowing the Confederate Era to fly year around on the courthouse grounds. The flag was being flown on one of the flag poles of the courthouse before the NAACP sounded an alarm in a county commission meeting. Subsequently, the flag was moved to the Confederate memorial site that sits on a corner of the courthouse grounds. Perhaps, smelling blood in the water, the NAACP reminded the city that an earlier commission meeting authorized the flag to be flown only once a year. The Commissioners dismissed this as an error and authorized the flag to fly year round at the memorial site.

This issue has emotions flying high on both sides of the fight. The NAACP has held many rallies and marches highlighting the disrespectful and racist nature of the flag and the County's choice to support its propaganda. The County has taken the stance that the flag represents the individuals that lost their lives in a historic time period in our nations history. The thing that has really shocked me are the racist undertones that have arisen on both sides of the feud.
